Hi! My name is Elizabeth Gronert, but most people just call me Liz. I am currently a senior and at the University of Iowa and this is my forth year playing on Saucy. It’s baffling to say that I have been playing ultimate, in some form or another, for about six years now. It is funny to think back to when I started my sophomore year of high school, barefoot in jeans with a bunch of boys. Now I am captaining a team that I love so much.
When I came to college I knew I wanted to play on Saucy, but I had no idea that the team would come to mean so much to me in such a short period of time. I always want to be a person that my teammates can rely on both on and off the field. This season I have set three goals: consistent endzone to endzone pulls, reliable shut-down defense and a level head on the field.
My life outside of Frisbee remains busy and a bit stressful at times. I am majoring in Anthropology and Environmental Science, along with pursuing a certificate in Sustainability. After graduating I may go to graduate school, but in the long run I hope to do work in conservation/environmental management. Outside of classes I do course assistant work for a Human Osteology class, work for the Iowa Geologic Survey and Captain Saucy. Some of my interests outside of ultimate focus around food, drinking tea, reading, recycling, dogs, Netflix and quilting.
Ultimate is my passion, but the toll it takes on my bank account along with school is not a positive one. This year I have been thankful to have a part time job that helps me along the way, but unfortunately it doesn’t cover too much. Getting sponsored would mean a lot to me, any assistance helps. If sponsored I will throw an additional two hours a week outside of practice along with an additional workout, and send emails updating my progress along with the teams. Your support will help make Saucy a program that lasts.
